Dhi Qar | Women trained to use digital tools for safer community peacebuilding
A group of women activists in Dhi Qar took part in a specialized training program designed to strengthen their ability to use digital communication platforms as safe tools for community monitoring and early identification of emerging tensions.
Held from 3 to 5 September 2026, the three-day program focused on strengthening participants’ readiness to navigate the growing flow of information across digital platforms and respond responsibly to issues that may affect community stability.
The sessions introduced practical approaches to using WhatsApp and Telegram to follow online content, identify signs of social tension, and recognize inciting narratives, hate speech, rumors, and other forms of harmful information.
Participants were also introduced to safer methods for handling sensitive information, including collecting, documenting, and analyzing data while protecting privacy and maintaining the security of those involved in the monitoring process.
The training further addressed how community observations and documented findings can be connected with local referral and response mechanisms, helping relevant actors respond to emerging concerns in a timely and effective manner.
The activity was implemented by Ishraqat Organization for Development with the support of UN Women in Iraq and funding from the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF), contributing to efforts to strengthen women’s participation in peacebuilding and expand their capacity to engage safely in digital community initiatives.
