Al-Muthanna – August 29, 2026
How can differences be transformed from a source of tension into an opportunity for understanding? And how can young people move from participating in community discussions to leading initiatives that create meaningful change?
These questions were at the heart of a training session organized by Ishraqat Organization for Development in Al-Muthanna Governorate, as part of its efforts to strengthen the skills of young people and community leaders and enhance their ability to contribute to building a more cohesive and peaceful society.
The session was implemented with the support of UN Women Iraq and funded by the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF). It brought together a group of community figures and young people interested in public affairs and local community engagement.
The training went beyond theoretical discussions, focusing instead on practical skills that participants can apply when dealing with everyday challenges and community disputes. Participants explored approaches to negotiation and conflict resolution, with particular attention to reducing escalation and creating pathways toward mutual understanding among different parties.
Another part of the session focused on dialogue as a tool for social cohesion, highlighting the importance of listening to different perspectives, respecting diversity, and managing differences without resorting to intolerance or exclusion.
The training then turned to the role of young people in the next stage, focusing on designing and leading community initiatives. Participants developed leadership skills aimed at helping them transform community needs and ideas into practical initiatives that support social peace and contribute to local development.
